First Visit

What to Expect at Your First Visit at ANEWU

Your first visit to ANEWU is a free consultation, not a sales pitch. Here is what actually happens, from the moment you check in to the moment you leave with a plan.

The short answer

What happens at your first visit to ANEWU?

Your first visit at ANEWU is a free consultation in three parts. The front desk reviews your medical and dental history, a 3D scan maps your jaw in office, then an oral surgeon examines you and explains your options in plain language. No treatment is performed that day.

If you have ever wondered whether a consultation is really just a sales appointment in disguise, the honest answer is that this one is built around information. Nothing is recommended until your anatomy has been scanned and looked at. Filling out the new patient forms ahead of time is the one thing that makes the visit shorter.

You are welcome to bring a spouse, an adult child or a friend. Most people find it easier to take in a treatment plan with a second set of ears in the room.

Before you come in

How should I prepare for my first visit?

Bring a current list of your medications, your medical or dental insurance card, and any referral slip or recent x-rays from another office. Completing the new patient forms before you arrive shortens check in. Eat normally beforehand, because a consultation involves an exam and imaging rather than treatment.

If you have ever wondered whether old records from another office are worth digging out, they are. Previous x-rays show how long a tooth has been missing, which is part of how bone loss is judged.

Write your questions down before you come. Most patients arrive with three or four, and it is easy to forget them once the scan is on screen. Some of the ones we hear most often are already answered in our common new patient questions.

Comfort and nerves

Is the first visit painful?

No. A first visit is an exam, a conversation and a 3D scan, so nothing is drilled, extracted or placed that day. If you are anxious about dental appointments, tell the team at check in. Anesthesia and sedation options are discussed before any surgery is scheduled.

Dental anxiety is one of the most common reasons people put off replacing a missing tooth for years. Saying it out loud at the front desk changes how the appointment is paced, and nobody will be surprised to hear it.

If seeing the space first would help, you can take a look inside our offices before you book anything.

What you leave with

After the exam, you leave with a plan.

Nothing about the visit is designed to end in a same day signature. It is designed to end with you understanding your own mouth.

  • Treatment options explained in plain language, including the alternatives worth considering
  • Your 3D scan reviewed on screen so you can see what the surgeon is seeing
  • Financing reviewed, including CareCredit, Proceed Finance and monthly payment plans
  • An honest note on anything that would need to happen first, such as grafting
  • Your next appointment scheduled only if you are ready to move forward
Who you will meet

Who will I see at my first visit?

Dr. Abtin Shahriari, an oral surgeon specializing in implant dentistry, performs the implant exam and reviews your 3D scan at the Buckhead, Cumming and Dawsonville offices. Facial aesthetics consultations are seen by Dr. Arshia Payman, MD. A front desk team member checks you in and gathers your history first.

Replacing missing teeth

How do I replace missing teeth?

Missing teeth are replaced three ways at ANEWU: a single dental implant for one gap, an implant bridge for several teeth in a row, or a fixed full arch on four or more implants for an entire jaw. The 3D scan taken at your first visit shows which your bone supports.

If you have ever wondered how to replace missing teeth without committing to something you do not understand yet, this is the part of the visit that settles it. Which route applies comes down to how many teeth are gone and how much bone is left underneath them.

When the bone has thinned, bone grafting can rebuild enough height for standard implants to be placed later. When grafting is not the right answer, zygomatic implants anchor in the cheekbone instead. Your surgeon will assess this with the 3D scan at your consultation.

Still deciding

More first visit questions, answered.

Yes. There's no cost to meet the team, review your imaging and hear your options at your first visit.

In most cases, yes. 3D imaging is typically taken during your first visit so your treatment plan can be based on your actual anatomy, not guesswork.

Of course. Many patients bring a spouse, family member or friend to their consultation, and you're welcome to do the same.

No. Our team walks you through every option and answers your questions, but there's never pressure to commit the same day.

Cost and financing

When will I find out what treatment costs?

At the same visit. Once the exam and 3D scan are done, the team reviews the cost of the recommended plan with you before you leave. Dental insurance typically does not cover implant treatment, so CareCredit, Proceed Finance and monthly payment plans are explained at every Georgia office.

Cost is not quoted before the scan because the number genuinely depends on what the scan shows: how many implants your case needs, whether grafting has to come first, and which restoration is used. A quote given without that information is a guess.

Insurance and dental implants

Dental insurance typically does not cover implant treatment, though some plans contribute toward extractions or a restoration. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted at all three Georgia offices.

CareCredit and Proceed Finance

ANEWU works with CareCredit and Proceed Finance and can arrange a monthly payment plan before your procedure is scheduled, so the figure you are deciding on is a monthly one.
