Who is Dr. Abtin Shahriari?

Dr. Abtin Shahriari, DMD, MPH is an oral surgeon specializing in implant dentistry at ANEWU in Georgia. He completed eight years of specialty training, including the University of Pennsylvania and Emory University, and has performed thousands of surgeries, from dental implants to facial reconstruction.

If you have ever wondered what separates an oral and maxillofacial surgeon from a general dentist, it comes down to the years after dental school. That surgical residency is why he takes on the cases other offices send out: implants placed into thin or rebuilt bone, full arch reconstruction, and facial trauma.

Outside the practice he founded Project Global Smile, which treats children with cleft lip and palate around the world. Inside it, he leads the team that handles full arch dental implants, bone grafting and oral surgery across three Georgia offices.

Facial aesthetics at ANEWU are led by Dr. Arshia Payman, MD, who works from the same treatment plan. A patient who needs both a surgical plan and an aesthetic consultation does not have to start over between two separate offices.

Replacing missing teeth

How do I replace missing teeth?

Missing teeth are replaced three ways at ANEWU: a single dental implant for one gap, an implant bridge for several teeth in a row, or a fixed full arch on four or more implants for an entire jaw. A 3D scan taken at your consultation determines which your bone supports.

If you have ever wondered which of those three applies to you, the short answer is that it comes down to how many teeth are gone and how much bone is left underneath them. The upper back jaw loses height quickly once molars are missing, so two people with the same number of gaps can need very different plans.

Not every jaw has the bone volume for four implants. When it does not, Dr. Abtin will either rebuild the bone first or anchor higher up in the cheekbone, and the 3D scan is what settles that question before anything is scheduled.

  1. 01

One missing tooth: a single dental implant

A titanium post replaces the root and a crown sits on top. The neighboring teeth are left alone rather than reshaped to carry a bridge across the gap.

  2. 02

Several teeth in a row: an implant bridge

Two or more implants carry a fixed bridge across the space. There are fewer implants than teeth, which keeps the surgery smaller while the result still stays fixed in place.

  3. 03

A full arch: fixed teeth on four or more implants

An entire upper or lower jaw is restored on four, six or more implants. This is the work ANEWU keeps in house, with the final teeth built in the on site lab rather than sent out.

Your first consultation

What happens when you meet Dr. Abtin for the first time?

A first visit with Dr. Abtin Shahriari starts with a conversation rather than a sales pitch. He listens to what is bothering you, takes a 3D scan of your jaw, then explains which options your anatomy actually supports and which it does not. Consultations at ANEWU are free.

  • You describe what is bothering you before anyone talks about treatment
  • A 3D cone beam scan shows the bone you actually have, not an estimate
  • Dr. Abtin explains which options fit your anatomy, and which do not
  • Cost and payment come up openly, including CareCredit and Proceed Finance
  • You leave free to think it over, with nothing booked until you say so

If cost is the thing holding you back, the implant financing options page lists what ANEWU accepts, so you can read it before you ever sit in the chair.

Ask him directly

Yes. Dr. Abtin Shahriari performs the oral surgery and implant procedures at ANEWU himself, including full arch cases. He also plans them, so the surgeon who reads your 3D scan at the consultation is the same surgeon in the operatory on the day of your procedure.

Two routes usually remain. Bone grafting rebuilds the jaw so standard implants can be placed later, or zygomatic and pterygoid implants anchor in bone higher up and can avoid grafting entirely. Dr. Abtin uses a 3D scan to determine which of the two applies to your anatomy.

Yes. Consultations at ANEWU are free, and that includes the 3D imaging used to plan implant position. You leave knowing which options your anatomy supports before any money changes hands. CareCredit and Proceed Finance can be arranged afterward if you decide to move forward.

Yes. ANEWU accepts referrals from other dental offices across Georgia. Dr. Abtin handles the surgical portion of the case and the ANEWU team communicates the treatment plan and progress back to the referring practice. Full details for colleagues sit on the referring doctors page.

The on site lab at ANEWU does. Full arch cases are finished in house rather than sent to an outside laboratory, so the surgeon and the technician building your teeth work from one plan. Adjustments happen in the same building instead of across two.
